Meeting with Bhutanese women interested in weaving. They share a language and culture with the people of Nepal.


Some of the Bhutanese women learned weaving in the refugee camps before coming to the U.S.

This is a close up of the rich patterning seen on a sleeveless shirt woven by Ju Nie then sent to Vietnam and cut, sewn, and fitted into a modern version of a Montagnard shirt or ao by her sisters.



The simple warp floats seem to pop out of the surface.

This baby carrier shows designs that indicate an origin in Pleiku,Vietnam.

The strong geometric designs are unusual but may be Rhade in origin.
